Sedation is the controlled administration of drugs that reduce stress, tension and discomfort during the procedure. The patient remains conscious and responsive to commands, but feels noticeably calmer and more relaxed. Intravenous sedation helps to reduce anxiety, lower the sensation of pain and makes the entire procedure comfortable and predictable. At SW11 Clinic, sedation is supervised by an experienced medical team who constantly monitor the patient’s vital signs, ensuring their safety at every stage of the procedure. For many people, this solution finally allows them to undergo treatment that they had postponed due to fear or previous difficult experiences.
Before sedation is performed, a medical consultation is necessary to assess whether the method is safe and appropriate for the patient. During the visit, the doctor conducts a thorough interview, analyses chronic diseases, medications taken and possible allergies. They will also assess airway patency and ask about previous experiences with anaesthesia or sedation. On this basis, the optimal level — minimal or moderate — is selected. The aim is to ensure maximum safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
In order for the procedure to be safe, the patient should prepare themselves appropriately.
6 hours before the procedure: fast — no food or dairy drinks.
Up to 2 hours before the procedure: you may only drink water.
24 hours before the procedure: avoid alcohol.
Dress comfortably, preferably in loose clothing.
Arrange for an adult guardian to take you home — without them, sedation cannot be performed.
At SW11 Clinic, we use two main levels of sedation, selected individually for the type of procedure and the level of stress experienced. Both are safe, controlled and allow you to remain conscious while reducing tension and discomfort.
Minimal sedation (anxiolysis)
This is the mildest form of sedation, providing greater calm while maintaining full consciousness and normal contact with staff. The patient speaks freely, responds to commands, and at the same time feels less tension. Ideal for short or low-stress procedures. Many patients describe this state as ‘calm’ without loss of control.
Moderate sedation
A deeper level of relaxation — the patient is very relaxed, may fall asleep, and often remembers little about the procedure after it is over. They still respond to verbal commands and breathe independently. This type of sedation is best suited for longer, more demanding or stressful procedures. It provides a high level of mental and physical comfort without the need for full anaesthesia.
At SW11 Clinic, we offer a full range of sedation services tailored to the type of procedure and individual patient needs.
